What is Auto S/R Zones?

Auto Support & Resistance Zones finds the prices the market keeps coming back to. It groups swing highs and swing lows that formed close to each other into one zone, and draws that zone as a box. The box is exactly as thick as its touches disagree, so three turns within a few dollars make a thin zone and scattered turns a thicker one.

Each zone shows its touch count. A zone price is above is coloured as support, one price is below as resistance. A zone that has held from both sides, as support at one time and resistance at another, is marked as a flip in its own colour.

This is a closed-source premium script. It runs on Altrady's servers, so only its output reaches your chart and its code is not published.

How to use Auto S/R Zones

  • Touch count. More touches means the level has been tested more often. Zones are kept by strength, so an old level that has been tested many times stays on the chart over a fresh pair of touches.
  • Flipped zones. A level that has worked from both directions is the strongest thing this tool finds. Old resistance holding as support after a breakout is the classic case.
  • The edges, not the centre. Read the zone's top and bottom. The edges only ever widen as touches are added, so they stay where you first read them.
  • A close through a zone. A zone is never deleted when price breaks it. It changes role and is then expected to work from the other side.

Settings

Swings

SettingDefaultRangeWhat it changes
TimeframeChart Chart, 15m, 30m, 1h, 4h, 1DRead the zones from a higher timeframe while trading a lower one. The chart's own period must divide it exactly.
Swing Length5 1 or moreBars either side of a pivot. It is also the lag: a touch joins its zone this many bars after it happened.
Significance (ATR x)1 0 to 10A swing is ignored unless the leg into it covered this much ATR. Lower than the suite's usual 1.5 on purpose: a level is built from the places price turned, and a shallow turn still counts as a test.

Zones

SettingDefaultRangeWhat it changes
Cluster Within (ATR x)0.5 0.01 to 5How close a swing must be to a zone's centre to count as the same level. This decides what IS one level. It does not pad the drawing, because the zone's thickness is the spread of its own touches. Widening it merges nearby levels into fewer, thicker zones.
Min Touches2 1 to 20How many touches before a zone is drawn. Two is the definition of a level that has been tested; one is just a swing, and the suite already has tools for those.
Max Zones8 1 to 50How many zones stay on the chart, kept by STRENGTH rather than by age: a much-tested old level outranks a fresh pair of touches. Nothing expires on a timer.

Colours

SettingDefaultRangeWhat it changes
Support #089981 A zone price is currently above.
Resistance #f23645 A zone price is currently below.
Flipped #ff9800 A zone that has held from BOTH directions. Its own colour because it is the strongest thing this tool finds, and because the fact is about the level's history rather than about where price is now.

Alerts: sr_flip, sr_new_zone.

How it works

The script tracks confirmed swings, keeping shallower ones than most of the suite because a shallow turn still counts as a test of a level. Each new swing joins an existing zone when it lies close enough to that zone's centre, measured in multiples of the average true range, and otherwise starts a new one.

A zone appears once it has Min Touches, two by default. It is redrawn when it gains a touch or changes role, and it can only grow wider, never narrower. Its role follows the close against its centre, so the colour changes with price while the zone stays put.

Max Zones keeps the strongest zones on the chart, eight by default. Nothing expires on a timer. When zones tie on touches, the older one is kept.

Limitations

  • Confirmation lag. A touch joins its zone Swing Length bars after the swing happened, because the swing has to be confirmed first.
  • Cluster width decides what a level is. A wider Cluster Within merges nearby levels into fewer, thicker zones; a narrower one splits them. There is no single right value.
  • Ties can change which zones show. Many zones share the same touch count. Which one takes the last slot can depend on how much history is loaded.
  • No broken state. The script does not tell you a zone failed. A close through it is treated as a flip, which you may not agree with in every case.
  • Zones are not entries. A zone marks where price has turned before, not where it must turn again.

Frequently asked questions

Each zone spans the highest and lowest of the swings that formed it. There is no padding setting. Cluster Within decides which swings belong to the same level, not how thick the box is.

A zone that contains both swing lows and swing highs, so it has held as support and as resistance at different times. It gets its own colour, orange by default.

No. A close through a zone changes its role from support to resistance or the reverse. Zones leave the chart only when stronger ones push them out of Max Zones.

Two. sr_new_zone fires when a new zone reaches its touch count, and sr_flip fires when a zone flips, with a message saying whether it flipped to support or resistance.

Yes. Auto Support & Resistance Zones is a closed-source premium script. It runs on Altrady's servers, so only its output reaches your chart and the code is never shared. You buy it once in the Altrady marketplace, on its own, in the Levels & Trendlines bundle or in the Altrady Complete Suite, and it needs a paid Altrady plan to run. It is also included with your first annual Premium subscription.

Use the Get it in Altrady button on this page to open its listing in the Altrady marketplace. Once it is in your account, open the indicator picker on any chart in Altrady Charts and add Auto Support & Resistance Zones like any other indicator. Its settings are in the indicator's settings panel.
