Breaking News

Indonesia is exploring Bitcoin for its national reserves!

Yep, you read that right.

Officials from VP Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s office just met with Bitcoin Indonesia to discuss using #Bitcoin as part of the country’s financial reserves, potentially making Indonesia a sovereign HODLer.

Here’s what was on the table:

  • Holding BTC to boost long-term financial stability
  • Using Bitcoin mining to contribute to the national treasury
  • Bold forecasts: BTC hitting $13M–$49M by 2045

This could position Indonesia as the first in Asia to adopt BTC on a national scale –  not just as an investment, but as a strategic reserve asset.

The message? Bitcoin isn’t just a hedge; it’s becoming a geopolitical tool.

Macro-Economic Update

US Service Sector Stalls in July as Tariff Pressures and Seasonal Headwinds Mount

The U.S. services sector showed signs of stagnation in July, with the ISM Services PMI slipping to 50.1, its weakest level this year and below expectations. Weighed down by seasonal disruptions and rising tariff-related pressures, the report highlighted widespread cooling across key metrics: business activity, new orders, and employment all softened, while price pressures surged to their highest since October 2022.

Most notably, employment remained in contraction for the second consecutive month, and both exports and imports flipped into contraction, underscoring the broader toll of trade tensions on global demand.

Bitcoin Inflows Rise as Price Stalls, Ethereum Sees Outflows Amid Rally

This week brought a sharp and unexpected divergence in inflows between Bitcoin and Ethereum: while Bitcoin saw positive inflows despite its price remaining flat in a downward sideways trend, Ethereum experienced a significant outflow spike on August 5th, even as its price climbed back to recent highs.

These contrasting movements highlight just how often crypto markets defy logic and efficiency, reinforcing the idea that investor behavior remains anything but predictable.

Institutional Momentum Builds, Crypto Enters 401(k)s and the Mainstream, Bullish IPOs

The crypto market is in a defining moment this week, driven by a powerful mix of political moves, regulatory clarity, and growing institutional interest. With the global market cap steady between $3.6 and $3.8 trillion, Bitcoin is testing its 50-day moving average, hinting at either technical fatigue or brewing upside.

A new executive order has opened the door for crypto in 401(k) retirement plans, potentially unleashing billions in capital.

Meanwhile, a real “crypto summer” is heating up Wall Street: oversubscribed IPOs like Bullish and deeper integration into traditional finance mark a clear path toward mainstream adoption.

Corporate treasury is buying; however, it may be peaking, signaling a shift toward a more mature, strategic phase.

Key Macroeconomic Insights

Rising Protectionism Meets Central Bank Caution in a Shifting Economy

This week’s economic pulse crackled with high‑stakes trade turbulence, central bank drama, and shifting market momentum.

The U.S. launched century‑high tariffs across an array of trading partners, marking a new “trade order”, sparking geopolitical jitters yet driving pockets of market resilience, particularly in tech and AI sectors.

Oil bucked downward trends, climbing on the back of unexpectedly strong U.S. demand and inventory drawdowns.

Across the pond, the Bank of England delivered its fifth rate cut in a year, lowering borrowing costs to 4% amid split internal voting and cautious guidance ahead.

Together, these developments underscore a global economy navigating rising protectionism, persistent inflation pressures, and central banks walking a delicate line between growth support and policy restraint.
